Batheaston
New build garden
The idea
For this new-build project featuring a wrap-around sloping garden, we designed an immersive planting scheme tailored to the home’s unique layout. With the primary living space situated on the top floor, the landscape was designed as a layered immersive scheme, specifically composed to be viewed and enjoyed from an elevated perspective.
The flora
We curated a classic palette of purple, pink, and blue perennials, anchored by ornamental grasses to provide texture and movement. This naturalistic approach ensures year-round seasonal interest. To create a structural transition, a specimen Cotoneaster cornubia was planted, serving as a visual anchor that marks the boundary between the formal borders and the wilder meadow beyond.
The detail
While the borders draw the eye toward the Bathampton Meadows, the steep side-gradient was reclaimed as a vibrant wildflower meadow. This not only solved the challenge of the slope but also blurred the line between the managed garden and the natural landscape.
