Bathwick Hill Courtyard
Courtyard garden with square reflecting pool
The idea
A square reflecting pool, edged in weathered reclaimed brick, forms the heart of this courtyard garden. Formal lines are softened by relaxed planting, with Cistus shrubs framing a white-painted iron bench beside the water.
The flora
Water lilies sit at the centre of the pond, while sedges rise through the water, adding height and movement to the pool. Salvias, Erigeron, a crab apple and grasses plus Boehmeria feature.
The detail
The garden is centred around the red-brick pool, with a slatted teak pergola providing a warm, natural contrast. Clothed in climbing jasmine, it creates a sheltered, fragrant space beside the outdoor office.
“Almost one year on, it has become a thing of beauty. It is more like a work of art. He always made us feel listened to and was very easy to collaborate with. ”
