Frome Farmhouse Garden
Where garden meets meadow
The idea
Commissioned during the construction of an oak-framed extension and garage, we were tasked with reimagining the entire garden. We proposed a a new brick terrace with formal Yew hedging to create a private sanctuary that transitions into a newly sown meadow. We maintained a small half-moon-shaped lawn and installed a brick path across the house with borders on either side.
The flora
To anchor the house, we utilised a rhythmic, repeating palette of Campanula, Valeriana, Euphorbia, and Roses. This borders-first approach creates an immersive walk along the house, eventually merging with the naturalistic meadow where we maintained simple mown paths.
The detail
The garden is divided by six-foot yew hedging with a brick path connecting the new gravel driveway to the private gardens. A side entrance was also planned for quick access to the oak framed garage past the existing tall cypress tree.
“The garden has brought me so much joy.”
