Thickwood Village
Naturalistic planting with outdoor kitchen
The idea
By removing an existing dry stone wall that bisected the garden, we opened up the space to create a flow of interconnected spaces.
The flora
The new spaces are immersed in wild, naturalistic planting designed to blend seamlessly with the garden's mature Mulberry, Hawthorn, and Prunus lusitanica. The palette features a textural mix of Euphorbia, Eupatorium, Sedum, and Actaea.
The detail
At the heart of the social space is a bespoke poured concrete and oak outdoor kitchen, thoughtfully designed to incorporate the client's existing BBQ. Complementing this modern feature, the stone from the original wall was reclaimed to construct a new terrace, grounding the contemporary kitchen in traditional materials.
“Almost one year on, it has become a thing of beauty. It is more like a work of art. He always made us feel listened to and was very easy to collaborate with.”
